The Student Ministry at Dalton First includes those in 6th-12th grade. At Dalton First United Methodist Church, our hope is to partner with students as they journey through the teen years. These can be fun, frightening, confusing, challenging and rewarding times, and we want to be present through it all. Our ultimate goal is to introduce them to Jesus, to know they belong, and that they are loved and accepted.
We have a strong tradition of serving our neighbors and seek to create community where students may come and seek Christ during a number of activities. Through weekly Sunday school, youth group, mission trips, year-round retreats, and much more, we desire to help each and every individual to be encouraged and strengthened in their relationship with Christ.

Dalton First United Methodist Church – Job Description

Job Title:  Pastor of Youth Ministries

Reports To:  Senior Pastor

Purpose:   The Pastor of Youth Ministries will lead the Youth of our church and help guide young people to a healthy and engaged Christ centered life.  Be responsible for creating and encouraging an active youth ministry program.   In accordance with direction from the Senior Pastor, engage the youth of our church and those of our community in a way that provides a safe place to belong that gives the youth the courage to be set apart as Christians and resilient to unhealthy peer pressures.  

Job Duties:

  • Develop lesson plans and an overall strategy that leads the Youth to Christ and develops their sense of Christian discipleship to our community and others.
  • Organize, plan, and lead activities that draw Youth to our programs.
  • Be responsible for growing the attendance and results of the Youth Program
  • Hold regularly scheduled sessions to interact with the youth.  Currently:
    • Sunday mornings (Sunday School hour)
    • Sunday evenings
    • Wednesday evenings
    • Regularly scheduled hours for consultation.
  • Be available to the Youth on an as-needed basis.
  • Be an active member of the Church’s leadership team
  • Develop positive relationships with the Youth and their Parents.
  • Display a Christ-like approach and lifestyle and pray regularly for our Young people in the church and our community.
  • Maintain Youth Social Media information flow and manage the Church’s Youth accounts.
  • Recruit Youth to our program
  • Lead programming that will aid in the growth and development of our Youth (for example:  XY Factor)
  • Responsibly manage the Youth budget.  Raise money as needed.
  • Create responsibilities for students to serve the Church and their community
  • Lead Confirmation activities
  • Lead and garner support from the DFUMC Youth Council

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required.  Preferred focus in: Theology, Biblical Studies, or Youth Ministry

Minimum of 2 years or more of Youth Ministry Leadership or supporting role
